MGR Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology currently in its tenth year of operation takes pride in its academic and other added accomplishments thus far. Mrs. Meenakshi Ammal, Founder of the Trust and Mrs. Gomathi Radhakrishnan - Chairperson and Mr. A. N. Radhakrishnan, Managing Trustee, Sri Muthukumaran Educational Trust, have been instrumental in the upbringing of this college.
Here are a few of the activities and accomplishments of MGR IHMCT over the past academic year.
MGR IHMCT is approved by "All India Council for Technical Education" (File No. TTH003/2002 ISRO/8372) New Delhi and affiliated to "Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu". (GO - 498).
MGR Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology had the honour of conducting short term summer training programmes and short term winter training programmes for the faculty of catering colleges in South India. These programmes sponsored by the Indian Society of Technical Education and All India Council for Technical Education included topics such as "Managing Quality in the Hotel Industry" and the like. The weeklong sessions had leading hoteliers from Chennai giving valuable input to the faculty that has enabled them to transfer appropriate knowledge and skills to the students of their respective colleges.
The entire college including staff and students attended the 3 day conference conducted by the "Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India" at Hotel Le Royal Meridian, Chennai. This conference included talks by eminent hoteliers from differnt parts of the world. The students had the rare opportunity of taking care of internationally renowned members of the hospitality trade.
Students of MGR Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology were given the privilege of serving during the "Tamil Nadu Collectors' Conference", annually. They also have had the privilege of serving during Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan.
All Ministerial conferences and other official meetings hosted by the "Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation" had the students of MGR Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology actively participating in both the production and service aspects.
The Institution is affiliated to SKAL International - An International organization which represents people from the Tourism and Travel Industry, Hotel Industry owners amd Managers and High Profile Hoteliers. The students have the opportunity to be a part of the Young "SKAL CLUB" and have an opportunity to interact with Hoteliers on a regular basis.
The students had the unique opportunity to work for the SKAL World Congress held in Chennai from 20th - 22nd October 2003. The students had the opportunity of interacting with international guests and earned a good name from the Industry by providing excellent Hospitality and Quality service.

The Institute provides Transportation (College Van) for students. (Route - Ayanavaram, Kellys, Annanagar, Thirumangalam, CMBT, Vadapalani, Arumpakkam, Kesawardhini, Valasaravakkam).
Cultural Events
Annual Cultural Day - Intra year competitions in all fields. Participation in all invitation events in South India College Annual Day.
Sports
Facilities for - Cricket, Volley Ball, Foot Ball, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Track and Field events, Annual Sports day - intra year event.
MGR IHMCT has been conducting invitation tournaments annually for all hotels and catering Institutions in South India in the fields of cricket, volley ball, carrom, table tennis, shuttle badminton and chess. Over 30 teams participate annually with excitement and enthusiasm.
Industrail Visits
Industrial visits have been conducted for students ranging from breweries and distilleries to various hotels, the Taj flight catering unit and bakeries in Chennai.
Campus Recruitment/Placement
Every year all leading Hotels conduct campus recruitment for students and for the past 10 years there has been "100% Placement" in various parts of the country and the world. We take pride that the students passed out from our Institution are placed in various fields in the Catering Industry.
Our students have been placed in Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, Hotels all over India, Shipping Sector, Classical Restaurants, Airlines, Railways, International Food Chains, Welfare Catering - Hostels & Hospitals, Industrial Catering Services, Off-Shore and On-Shore Catering, Hotels and Food Outlets abroad, Popular Bakery Chains, Corporate Guest Houses, Faculty in Hotel Management Institutes etc.
Many of our students are doing well in Hotels and Restaurants in USA, Canada, Australia, Europe and the Gulf. This is the only Industry where the student after passing out is armed with a job. This course is highly Job Oriented and provides the candidate a chance to make his own career through Employment and Prospects of Self-Employment. The relatiom MGR has with the Hotels in South India is a factor to be proud of. All the Hoteliers and Hotels hold our Institution in high esteem and call upon us for each of their requirement. All the Hoteliers regard the Institute as the best in Chennai and one of the best in South India.

Every year students of the college conduct two theme food festivals both national and international. These festivals act as a platform for budding aspirants to display their culinary skills and organizational skills in front of eminent Hoteliers.
Achievements
MGR IHMCT has won trophies in volley ball, table tennis and badminton and has come runners-up in cricket in the annual MGR Invitation tournaments and other tournaments. Students have participated in various quiz competetions conducted by other colleges and have won several prizes.
Annually a student chef competition is conducted in MGR IHMCT that has students from over 25 colleges actively participating. Members of South India Culinary Association have judged this event.
It is the combined effort of the team at MGR, which has facilitated the growth of the Institute to such heights. Our endeavour is to be on top by providing Quality Hospitality Education.
